RP @yourrightscamp "People sometimes forget that love is at the root of our resistance" @kaepernick7

Seven years ago this day, history witnessed a defining moment when Colin began protesting systemic racism specifically police terrorism against Black people. This simple, yet symbolic bold act helped spread a nation-wide and global conversation about racial injustice and police brutality.

Despite backlash, criticism and loss of employment with the league, he stood on his commitment to shedding light on the need for significant change. Colin stands on the shoulders of Black freedom fighters throughout history including Paul Robeson, Muhammad Ali, and Angela Davis who made significant sacrifices to ensure Black and Brown communities worldwide can work toward a life without the burden of systemic oppression.

As the founder of KYRC, Colin has advanced his mission through information, education, self-empowerment and organizational efforts that have wide-arching effects on present and future generations. The past year has seen the organization take further steps to ensure its goals through the Autopsy Initiative, which has given out over 50 free autopsies for families of victims who have lost their loved ones due to in-custody or police-related death.

Colin's on field protests reminds us all that love is at the core of our resistance. Let's continue to stand together and be inspired by not only his legacy, but the legacies of all who work for change that he bravely stood for.
