Thirty-Four PSU Student-Athletes On Track To Graduate In Fall Ceremony
Thirty-four Penn State student-athletes are scheduled to graduate on Saturday, December 16. The Nittany Lion student-athletes represent 13 sports on the intent to graduate list.
Football leads the way with 13 student-athletes, while women's cross country and track & field, field hockey, men's gymnastics, women's lacrosse, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, men's track & field, women's volleyball and wrestling all have student-athletes who are slated to graduate.
Among the student-athletes that have expressed their intent to graduate is offensive tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu as he completes his degree in supply chain & information systems. Fashanu has been named first-team All-American by three out of the five NCAA-recognized outlets (Associated Press, Sporting News and Walter Camp Football Foundation).
On the women's side, Zoe Weatherington from women's volleyball intends to graduate with her degree in sociology. Weatherington was recently drafted by the San Diego Mojo in the Women's Pro Volleyball Draft.
During the 2022-23 academic calendar year, 176 Nittany Lions earned their degrees (Spring 2023-131, Summer 2022-26, Fall 2022-19).
2023 Fall Academic All-Big Ten Honorees
Penn State Athletics saw 116 student-athletes earn Academic All-Big Ten honors for the fall semester. Hope McKenney (women's cross country), Gery Schnarrs (field hockey), Rowan Lapi (women's soccer), Amanda Poorbaugh (women's soccer) and Mac Podraza (women's volleyball) all had perfect 4.0 GPAs.
Penn State student-athletes continue to register record-breaking graduation rates and perform well above their peers nationwide. The Nittany Lions posted a record 93% NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and 12 programs earned perfect 100% ratings.
This is the seventh consecutive year the Nittany Lions have posted a record or record-tying performance in the classroom, according to data reported by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Under the leadership of Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, Dr. Patrick Kraft, Penn State has one of the nation's most comprehensive and successful athletic programs, featuring 800 student-athletes across 31 varsity programs (16 men's, 15 women's). The Nittany Lions' 31 programs are tied for the fourth-highest number of sports sponsored by a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) institution.
