Penn State Coach Franklin On Dealing with Adversity

To say that the Penn State football team had to deal with adversity this week would be putting it lightly. Not only did the Nittany Lions lose to Michigan, but they were knocked out of the Big Ten Championship race. They also had lost a staff member when Mike Yurcich was fired on Sunday. But James Franklin took this moment to teach his team not just a football lesson but a life lesson on dealing with adversity.

Dealing with Adversity

In this week's episode of Quite Franklin Penn State head coach James Franklin spoke with LaVar Arrington as he was navigating the waters within a difficult week of being the head coach of the Nittany Lions. At the end of the day, Franklin had to have his team go back to work, even when their goals are out of reach, and change is in the building the work must continue.

Franklin explained, " It's exactly that, here's the reality of where we are at. The most important thing we have to do is bounce back and get a win this week and get better as an organization. Be honest and transparent and upfront about the things we didn't do well. But each week it really doesn't change.

The result should not change your process and the reality is as you know LaVar, you're going to be dealing with adversity the rest of your life. Not only is this a football lesson but it's a life lesson. If you don't feel good one day you gotta go to work. You got issues at home, you gotta go to work every single morning. There are lessons in this as a football player but there are lessons in this as a young man. And we're in the production business, we're playing a tough team this week as you know..."
